Our featured track this month is arsenick by Plank!

It's another exciting month for blankpages – this one's extra special.

We're extremely pleased to present an exclusive interview with Naomi Alderman, on her second book 'The Lessons', published last month by Penguin, and indeed the lessons she has learned through her experience of success and attention as a novelist. She's dished out frank advice on publishing, creativity and form, coupled with a piece of her own short fiction.

This month's cover art – from Brazilian artist Erica Ferrari – combines striking acid geometrics with functional imagery, and our spotlight falls on Nicholas Dedics; a Manchester based artist exploring the impact of information saturation on our modern lives through his paintings.

To co-incide with the blankpages Liverpool Showcase (at Leaf Tea Shop & Bar, Parliament Street, Liverpool, on 12th May – part of the Writing on the Wall Festival's 10th anniversary celebrations), blankverse this month is highlighting the work of Liverpool poet Cate Jacobs, who will be reading at the event in Liverpool (alongside Curtis Watt, Black Jack Barnet, Darren Adcock, Jack Welsh and plenty more besides!). Be sure to come along if you can.

This month's mp3 is provided by the sensational Plank! Recently featured live in session on BBC6 Music, their  fusion of dark, rhythmic, experimental, instrumental sprawlings and electronic soundscapes is one to watch. And listen to.

    Erica Ferrari is a Brazilian artist, educated at the School of Communications and Arts, University of Sao Paulo, in Fine Arts. She has exhibited her work widely in Sao Paulo and won the Incentive Award in 2006 with group Hóspede at the '34 ° Contemporary Art Exhibition Luiz Sacilotto'

    Cate Jacobs

    Cate Jacobs is a poet who has lived with HIV since 1995 and although she has written for most of her life, the profound change that this has made to her life underpins and influences much of her work. Born in London in 1963, she has lived both in the UK and abroad, spending some of her childhood in Kenya. Most of her adult life has been spent in the North of England and she is currently resident in Liverpool.

    Plank!

    Hot off the press and not so fresh from lurking the backstreets of Manchester’s seedier side come brand new act Plank! Fusing dark rhythmic experimental instrumental sprawlings and electronic soundscapes with a motorik manifesto the debut EP is to be released by local DIY institution aA Recordings. In their short existence Plank! have already shared the stage and dance floor with like-minded souls Fujiya & Miyagi, The Phantom Band, Crystal Antlers, The Time & Space Machine, Zombie Zombie, Lung, Rotter And Seven and Oneida. Be sure to check them out at a venue near you soon...

    Naomi Alderman

    Naomi Alderman’s first novel ‘Disobedience’ (published in 2006) won the Orange Award for New Writers. She was shortlisted for the National Short Story Award in 2009, and her new novel, 'The Lessons' was published by Penguin in April 2010.

    Nicholas Dedics is an artist living and working in Manchester. Born near Leeds in 1986 he went on to study BA Fine Art at Coventry University, graduating with a first in 2009 he then moved to Manchester and works from a studio based in the city centre. Exhibiting throughout the country he has up coming shows in Kendal, Manchester and London.
