Upcoming Event: Inside [BLANKSPACE]

Friday 30 March - Sunday 29 April 2012

Within the insular and atmospheric setting of BLANKSPACE gallery, Inside explores the psychological connections we form with our environment, placing the participant within a collection of works that disturb, envelop, and engage. Upcoming Event: [Recommends] Eight | BLANKSPACE External Exhibition

24 February - 11 March 2012

BLANKSPACE, 43 Hulme Street, Manchester, M15 6AW

The exhibition eight showcases the work of a group of eight contemporary artists with different backgrounds and styles. Two years where each artist has been working on individual art pieces within a communal studio space has come to an end. Swapping ideas, conversations and techniques daily has allowed the artists to share inspirations and this research and sense of play is now culminating in this final group show. Eight will reveal to the public a range of contrasting styles and mediums enabling the transition of eight fellow students into eight emerging and individual artists. A journey that started together will end together.

Friday 30 September 2011, 6pm - Thursday 6 October 2011

Piccadilly Place, Manchester

Based in Manchester, England. No Offence Intended is a collective of conceptually led artists. NOI formed earlier in 2011 as a reaction to the current critical debate of contemporary art within the economic climate. The artists aim to explore the notion of the gallery space aesthetic, to question and present a ‘concept’ to a wider audience. The decision to initiate one core idea and to develop individual interpretations is the strength of the exhibition.

Get your folk on with All We Are's exclusive interview and brand new MP3; and catch a first glimpse at Blank Media Collective's No.1: Paint exhibition artwork (launching at BLANKSPACE on 8 September), featuring this month's cover artist, Cara Campbell.

We broke the news to you in our last edition that Kevin Bradshaw, our fiction editor, is leaving – read his fantastic parting gift to us in this month's fiction. We've also got brand new poetry from Amy-Rose Derbyshire; hand selected from our very own Blank Media Collective portfolios.

If you've not heard her name before (where have you been?), we'd also like to introduce you to Tamsin Drury, director of hAb Arts, in this month's feature. Read all about her work with the approaching emergency Accommodation festival here.

As always, you can find out how to spend the rest of your month in our Recommends section. Other than reading blankpages, of course.

[Recommends] PULLING THE THREADS: Embroidered Graffiti

Upcoming Event: [Recommends] PULLING THE THREADS: Embroidered Graffiti

Sunday 26 June 2011 - Saturday 3 September 2011

Tameside Central Art Gallery

In her debut solo show Sarah uses the traditional craft of embroidery to vandalise and graffiti everyday objects with emotive, political and thoughtful text. Fridges, doors, food and sinks become the canvases for hidden thoughts.

Sarah Greaves is an artist whose practice crosses art-forms. The delicate feminine craft of embroidery is combined with the vandalising qualities of graffiti. Through her Embroidered Graffiti she raises questions about stereotyped identities and gender roles, our relationships with our bodies, and how the domestic and private become public.
