Photographs from blankpages launch party on Friday 15th May at The Black Lion featuring DBH / Justin Watson / Steve O’Connor / Annette Cookson / Trashed Couture / Kalbakken / Angela Guyton / Daniel Swan / Gerry Potter

Kalbakken (www.myspace.com/kalbakken)

Kalbakken, a band inspired musically by Norwegian folk music and lyrically by traditional stories, make use of elements such as guitar, violin, accordion and percussion and mixing structure and improvisation. They present to a modern audience stories that otherwise might have died. Their songs open a doorway to a world that no-one who hears it can have ever been to - and there’s not many bands you can say that of.

Gerry Potter (www.myspace.com/gerrypotterpoet)

At once abrasive and tender, Gerry Potter’s craft is a spell-binding blend of nostalgia and myth-making. In 2008, his play ‘Miracle’ did a successful run at the Lowry Theatre. For the ‘blankpages’ relaunch event, he will be previewing work from his forthcoming collection of poetry, ‘Planet Young’.

Annette Cookson (www.myspace.com/moomin12)

Annette Cookson is a social and emotional commentator hailing from Benchill. Expect Mancunian passion and soulful realism from this fire-hearted performer.

Steve O’Connor (www.myspace.com/steveoconnorpoet)

Steve O’Connor runs creative writing workshops in Manchester and co-hosts ‘Freed Up’, a friendly and exuberant open mic poetry night at the Green Room Theatre. His exclusive reading of his short fiction from the relaunch issue promises to be atmospheric, enigmatic and engaging.

Trashed Couture (www.trashedcouture.com)

Trashed Couture is a project by fashion guru Sara Li-Chou Han, in which she turns the cast-offs of yesterday into the essentials of tomorrow - and the day after for that matter. We are delighted to be showing some of her most recent creations at this event.

Daniel Swan (www.danielswan.co.uk)

Daniel Swan is a 21 year old graphic design student currently living in Brixton, South London. He spends most of his time drawing, making videos for people, drumming and making zines. His video work is influenced by a lot of visionary architecture, early video synthesizer experiments and old sci-fi films, and frequently collages together computer animation with appropriated pictures and videos found on the internet.

Angela Guyton (www.angelaguyton.com)

Angela was born in Cartagena, Colombia then moved to Miami, FL where she lived most of her life. Angela’s work has focused on live painting accompanied by live experimental music since 2004, when she joined ‘failure, arc of beauty. She works intuitively, and considers a work’s evolution through live performace more valuable than the end product itself. Though Angela is primarily a visual artist, she is also a composer in her own right with heavy leanings towards structured improvisation.
