[Recommends] Student films wanted for leading UK festival
Wednesday 21st Jul 2010
exposures: new talent in moving image is encouraging all student filmmakers to enter their work for the 2010 edition of the UK’s leading student film and moving image festival.
The festival, now in its 17th year, takes place each November in Manchester. It represents a major opportunity for student filmmakers to have their work seen by key people in the industry which, in 2009, included Shameless creator and festival patron, Paul Abbott; and renowned producer Sita Williams (The Street).
This year’s deadline for entry is 30 July and the competition is open to anyone who has produced film or moving image artwork since August 2009 whilst studying at a higher education institution in the UK. The festival is looking for the very best quality of entry whilst making the process as open as possible: entry is free and the work can be of any genre and theme as long as it is under 30 mins.
Last year over 400 films from across the UK were submitted and the 48 films selected for the festival were viewed by more than 1000 people during the three days of exposures. The winners received their awards at the Corona Extra Best of the Fest ceremony where they were able to get invaluable one-to-one advice from top industry experts such as the Abbott Vision team, as well as to network with fellow filmmakers from across the country
Festival co-directors Beth Hewitt, from the University of Salford and Isabelle Croissant, from Cornerhouse said:
“The festival is a platform for industry people to search out emerging talent in all areas related to their profession. Not just writers and directors, but camera operators and sound people have all been recruited through exposures.
“Students works get unrivalled attention from professionals because the industry is aware of the calibre of entrants.”
All information on how to enter, including downloadable entry forms can be found on www.exposuresfestival.co.uk
exposures: new talent in moving image is a partnership between Cornerhouse and the University of Salford, and is honoured to have BAFTA award-winning scriptwriter and producer Paul Abbott as its patron. The festival is pleased to continue its long term collaboration with Head Sponsor Corona extra who will sponsor exposures for the 4th year.
The festival will take place in Manchester 16 – 18 November 2010.
