Resume

Biography / Personal Statement

My name is Edward Bowie and I am an artist based in Pembrokeshire, Wales.

I am inspired by the beauty of the natural world and create oil paintings of seascapes and landscapes with an air of impressionism.

The land and sea provide a crucial element to the creation of my work, not just in the application of paint, but also my inspiration and motivation. I like to capture movement and take aspects of the environment: colour, atmosphere and mood and transfer those qualities into a visual form. The way the weather can affect the mood of a land/seascape; it can transform a view/emotion/sensation entirely and therefore manipulate your perspective of the world at that moment and in the future (memory). I also take account of the humbling sensation when it feels like you against the elements in a vast landscape, the movements of the ocean and sky, and the seemingly eternal depth and mystery of the horizon.

The inspiration for my work encompasses both the physical and non-physical.  I especially enjoy painting scenes that were in half light because the ocean tends to lend itself to abstraction with the atmospheric playing of light upon the surface of the sea.

I really try to breathe life into my work in order to give that overpowering sensation of freedom and beauty, which is so commonplace in the vast open skies of the Pembrokeshire countryside.

Galleries I have work in include Oriel-y-Felin, St. Davids, Wilton Art Gallery, Wilton, GXGallery, London, Mascalls Gallery, Brighton and a number of shows.
