Biography / Personal Statement

My name is Ben Mosley; I am a 29-year-old professional artist from Hertfordshire. I have steadily progressed as an artist since obtaining my BA Fine Art Honour’s degree in 2003 from the University of Liverpool. I have achieved solo shows in London and my use of acrylic paint and printing ink allows me to create powerful and dynamic images of striking simplicity. My artistic influences include Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Vincent Van Gogh, Juan Miro and Antonio Gaudi. My work can be found in many private collections throughout the UK, and has been televised on the music channel MTV Base, and BBC 1 Look North News. I have also had joint exhibitions promoting anti-racism in football most notably at the Wrexham Arts Centre where I was selected to commemorate the ten-year anniversary of "Lets Kick Racism Out of Football". My work celebrates race equality and the multicultural aspects of sport.  Images such as "Twin Towers", "The National Anthem" and "The Trinity Hall Samba Boys" typify my passion for capturing the emotion and spirit that can bring the world of art, football and sport together in celebration. I am hoping to produce exciting new work in relation to the Olympic games.

My work can currently be found in a successful artist run London based gallery, Skylark 2 which is in the Oxo building in the heart of London’s Southbank.

Ben Mosley Press release Statement

Ben Mosley is a young ambitious artist whose initial study of crowds, how they move, the shapes and forms that occur and the excitement that the crowd generates has developed into a series of football-based paintings and mono-prints.

Ben’s vigorous, often large-scale paintings depict crowd scenes at football matches and events surrounding the players. “My paintings show the dynamism and the explosion of energy that happens in football… which is why the painting has to be spontaneous and rigorous”.

Predominantly figurative in nature, Ben’s work exhibits some cubist elements, while at times being reminiscent in style of the action painters Kline and de Kooning, with his energetic application of paint and ink and gestural brushstrokes producing work, which is often a fine balance between figuration and abstraction.

Ben’s painting “66” which will feature in Skylark 2 during the world cup is a fine example of all these elements mentioned above. “66” is a special painting to Mosley, and to many English football fans from around the world. It shows England’s legendary captain Bobby Moore lifting the World Cup after a 4-2 triumph over West Germany in 1966, at the spiritual home of English football. This image is an expression of the celebration of English football and has become iconic as to this date it depicts England’s one and only world cup triumph.

Ben is also passionate about race equality in football and sees the World Cup as a great opportunity to celebrate the multicultural aspect of the game. His black and white paintings ‘Team Spirit United Against Racism’ and ‘Black United v White Athletic As If!!!!’ are symbolic of his strong feelings, while the powerful image of ‘Black Beckham the Captain of England’ is a provocative statement on the colour of skin.

Ben obtained a BA Honours degree in Fine Art at the University of Liverpool in 2003. He has exhibited regularly since and developed a loyal and faithful following.Selected Exhibitions
