Biography / Personal Statement

james fickling is a visual artist whose work addresses themes such as place identity, heritage, myth & memory. drawing upon his rural upbringing in west yorkshire, james fickling’s practice offers up spaces for contemplation and self-reflection, delivered through degradation, ephemerality and the silence of motionless time.

over the past four years, james fickling has completed both an undergraduate and postgraduate degree in fine art. in addition to this he has worked alongside recognised artists and art collectives such as andy goldsworthy and dance4 and has also been published in fashion & culture magazines such as vanity, as well as contributed to publicity material for nottingham trent university and nottingham contemporary.
