Resume

Biography / Personal Statement

I usually work in ephemeral media such as drawing or non-permanent installation.

To my mind, contemporary drawing is currently blurring the borders between illustration, design and its original significance as a 'temporary' medium. Being a very accessible and ephemeral medium, it has expanded and emancipated itself from being considered as a means of 'sketching' and 'mapping' ideas towards an independent and reduced form of creating a 'product' in its own right. However, its fugitive quality has remained a very important aspect – artists like Hanne Darboven have chosen it as their medium of 'mapping' and 'structuring' the world. Others, like Swiss artist Silvia Bächli, use it to define general, concise and unpretentious forms. The pursuit of these two motives is the general interest of my work.

Drawing is a medium to structure one's thoughts, one's ideas and theories. It consists of the most simple and straightforward forms and provides an immediate result, an immediate outcome. My research processes have focused on the idea of isolation within a larger community, on thoughts about how to preserve one´s individuality - when including oneself in a community often means to conceal some of our personality. My work explores the outcome of these actions.
