[Opportunity] The Title Art Prize

To celebrate 5 years of supporting emerging practitioners, Blank Media Collective is launching an important new art prize in Manchester. We are looking for exciting visual artists from the UK working within any medium, concept or scale to submit new works.
Who: Emerging visual artists / practitioners residing in the UK
Location: BLANKSPACE, 43 Hulme Street, Manchester, M15 6AW
When: Exhibition launch: Thursday 27 October 2011 | Exhibition continues: 28 October – 27 November 2011 | Awards Evening: Saturday 12 November 2011
Accepted media: 2D works (painting, photography, collage, printmaking etc.) | 3D works (sculpture, installation [including sound] etc) | Video works
Prizes:

1st Prize: £500 + Solo Exhibition Curated and Supported by Blank Media Collective | 3 other prizes and People’s Choice award TBA
Selection procedures:
All shortlisted works will be shown within The Title Art Prize exhibition forming Blank Media Collective’s fifth birthday celebrations. Four winners will be selected by a panel of established artists, curators and directors, with each artist receiving prizes to help benefit their future creative practice. A fifth winner will then be selected through the People’s Choice Award. The Title Art Prize exhibition will be shortlisted and curated by the Blank Media Collective curatorial team.

Artist Paul Rooney was born in Liverpool in 1967, and trained at Edinburgh College of Art. Paul now primarily works with text, sound and video, often focusing on the presence of the historical past within the ‘voices’ of real and fictional individuals. Paul has had residencies at Dundee Contemporary Arts/University of Dundee VRC; Proyecto Batiscafo, Cuba; Tate Liverpool (MOMART Fellowship) and was the ACE Oxford-Melbourne Artist Fellow for 2004. He has shown recently in group projects at Tate Britain, London; Museo Reina Sofia, Madrid; Kunst-Werke, Berlin; the Shanghai Biennial; and Tate Liverpool. Paul was included in British Art Show 6 which toured around the UK in 2005-2006, and had solo shows at Matt’s Gallery, London, and Collective Gallery, Edinburgh, in 2008. Text artworks by Paul were published recently by Serpent’s Tail and Whitechapel Gallery/MIT Press. Paul was the winner of the second Northern Art Prize in 2009.
Tomas Harold

Tomas Harold has been working for six years as a cultural producer. After graduating with an MA in Visual Art & The City, he helped develop the Liverpool-based independent arts organisation Mercy by curating and directing several international exhibitions and projects. A brief period of free-lance work involved Assistant Curator and Project Manager roles for major Chinese and Korean exhibitions during Liverpool Biennial 06 / 08 at A Foundation and other venues. This period included curatorial residencies in Libya, South Korea and Berlin. Since 2009, Tomas has been employed full-time as Exhibitions Coordinator at Cornerhouse, Manchester, and in the past 2 years has worked on exhibitions by Jeremy Deller, Artur Zmijewsky, Phil Collins, and Gavin Wade, with planned exhibitions by Rashid Rana and Minerva Cuevas.

Mark Devereux

Mark Devereux is the Director and Curator for Blank Media Collective. Since graduating from BA Photography and MA Fine Art at Staffordshire University he has been involved in a number of successful exhibitions around the country. As an artist he has been represented by Warmwalls Contemporary Art Gallery, Cheshire and has sold work for a public collection at the Regional Science & Learning Centre in Staffordshire. Through Mark’s work with Blank Media Collective he has facilitated and curated a wide range of projects including; Blank Media Collective @ greenroom Exhibitions residency, BlankWeekend 2010, the launch of BLANKSPACE and BlankExpression 2011 and cara b = side b.
How to apply:

3. Include at least one image for each individual submission or if a video a URL link to view the submission online (please ensure images are in jpeg format and clearly labelled with name and title of work).
4. If you would like to provide supporting information such as a C.V or artists statement with your application please feel free to do so. Please keep all written information to 500 words (maximum) in Word (.doc) or PDF format.
5. To pay, please follow the PayPal link below. (£5 for the submission of 1 piece and £10 for up to 5 pieces). Blank Media Collective will automatically be sent confirmation from PayPal once you have paid. Please remember to include your transaction reference in the application form.
Blank Media Collective follow an online entry process therefore all submissions should be sent via email to: . clearly stating ‘Submission: The Title Art Prize FAO Mark, Rose & Sophie by the closing date: Friday 9 September 2011 (midnight).
Submission Fee:
£5 for the submission of 1 piece and £10 for up to 5 pieces.
This fee is a non-refundable administration fee.
Submissions should be paid via the PayPal link on the Blank Media Collective website.
Please contact Blank Media Collective for alternative methods of payment if necessary.
