Issue 14 Featured Artists

  • ‘Food for Thought’ (Henry Brooks)

    Christine Morris

"I love painting with chocolate, it’s a surprisingly versatile medium, and obviously a real pleasure to work with. You can mould it, sculpt it, make it any colour, and tailor it to any of your needs. Chocolate is no longer a disposable pleasure and no longer something to feel guilty about!" Christine's paintings give you the time to appreciate what you enjoy, whilst feeding your imagination through your sense of smell and vision.

  • Holly Burton

    Holly Burton

Hollyann is a poet born of the Northwest of America and living in England for the past 30 years but still retaining the laid back northwest accent and approach. She has been a fairly successful singer songwriter in Manchester and the North West of England. Her work reflects the passion and isolation of one torn between cultures and loved ones, constantly trying to find balance but also having the freshness of being born into new settings. There is a physical element to the writing and use of words as well as a fresh focus on colour and light, the main aim being to elevate the human experience for all who encounter her work.

  • Arthur Chappel

In a first for blankpages, this issue sees the publication of 'short short' fiction by Arthur Chappel. These pieces are between 100 and 500 words long and by their very nature successful stories of the sort have to strip away all non essential elements and get right to the heart of story-telling. Arthur Chappel's work includes the complexities often associated with science-fiction but deals with them concisely to tell stories that reflect an absurdist sense of humour that will appeal to readers of all types.

  • Mothertrucker

We have an interview with Mothertrucker - a exciting rock band from Birmingham with a sense of humour as well as a sense of musical adventure. Formed in 2003, this four-piece have garnered great reviews for their three albums at a time when some of their main influences have seemed to lose their way. Mothertrucker mix a desire to explore new avenues of metal music with a knowledge that without good riffs to build your songs around you can cross from 'experimental' to 'unlistenable'. An example of this balancing act is the track 'Liddell Couture III' which accompanies the new issue as an mp3.

  • Carbuncle

    artbysara

Featured in this issue are the striking images of artbysara - bold caricatures that cover everything from fairy-tales to 'the man down the street'. Her work draws together almost archetypal figures and drops them right into the modern era, and explores the places where the figure and the surroundings don't quite fit. Unlike artists whose work hangs in galleries to be admired, the availability and accessibility of her work is part of the point, in terms of subject matter, presentation, and the formats in which her art can be bought and kept. We are delighted to be adding to that accessibility in blankpages.
