[Recommends] Call for Artists: Exhibition Opportunity ‘Latitude’

To complement its small but growing collection of 20th Century maps of Manchester & Salford, the manchester modernist society invite artists, designers and makers to submit work during the Chapel Street Open 2010, for inclusion in ‘LATITUDE’, an exhibition of artist mapmaking.

We invite artists to submit work that responds, in the broadest possible sense, to the theme of mapmaking. 2D or 3D work of any medium, (drawings, paintings, print, graphics, artists books, etc.) will be considered (but please note that only limited space is available a maximum size of 1mx1.5m for 2d work is recommended).

The Chapel Street Open is an annual multi-venue event highlighting creative activity and artist’s studios in and around the Chapel Street area of Salford.

“Manchester Modernist Society is an artist-led organisation that exists to document, investigate and celebrate the twentieth century city in the spirit of the amateur and the enthusiast. We believe that the recent past and its rich variety of grand and ordinary, cherished and neglected buildings continue to play a part in our shared consciousness and sense of identity, continue to influence who we are and remind us of how we worked, rested and played. Submissions for selection by digital means - email only.
Submissions Deadline: 30 September 2010
Exhibition Dates: 20 – 28 November 2010
Apply: To apply email exhibition@manchestermodernistsociety.org with digital images of your work (no more than six images, jpeg, pdf format, max file size 1MB). If we cannot open your files your application will not be accepted. Please include dimensions of work, and the artist’s sale price for each item.
Selection: week commencing 4 Oct 2010.
Selected work must be delivered by 7 November 2010
Unsold work to be collected by the artist after 29th November 2010

Payments: All work is to be available for sale. A commission of 1/3 will be charged on sales. NB all proceeds will support the continuing aims of the modernist society – a not for profit organisation.
