The cell is becoming stronger, more powerful, more useful, and more detrimental. It is with you at all times. It is in your pocket, it is in your very make up and it surrounds you. For 12 hours at BLANKSPACE you can begin to understand the cell. Learn more about it and you can learn how to control it, but you must also be prepared to discover how it controls you.

Switch Circuit, part of FutureEverything Festival 2011 will explore the possibilities of participation and interaction over a 12-hour period. Switch Circuit is an unpredictable experiment involving each participant’s mobile-technological capabilities and looking at how intrusions and interruptions can take advantage of the trust we place in their potentially dangerous functionalities.

In an Orwellian atmosphere of control, examination and scrutiny, a single cell, be it the visitor’s own or an unknown, will control their every move. Participants’ actions at one time in one place will dictate happenings elsewhere at a different time and as these actions are displaced, more are created. Each participant directly influences the outcomes, which will make up the exhibition immediately following the 12-hour event.

These limitless outcomes will evolve throughout and are changeable and unpredictable as they act and react to the live happenings and performances determined solely by the participants. Experience this day or night, or endure the entire 12 hours and let your battery run on reserve power…

Switch Circuit has been devised and conceptualised by a specially formed cell including Taneesha Ahmed, Georgia Charalambsus, Kate Charlton, Mark Devereux, Peter Fallon, Jamie Hyde, John Leyland, Florin Mocanu, Spyridon Paparoulias, Andrea Pazos, Charalampos Politakis and Matthew Stanners. The event and subsequent exhibition has been devised by the Blank Media Collective Curators in response to FutureEverything Festival’s themes of ‘Global & Connected’ and ‘FutureEverybody’.
