blankpages Visual Editor / Designer (voluntary)

blankpages, the online magazine from Blank Media Collective, is looking for a new Visual Editor / Designer to take charge of its overall design. We’re looking for someone who can build on the look of recent issues whilst adding their own spin.
The successful candidate will be able to design Flash and PDF documents, web literate, prepared to work to deadlines, work well in a team, and attend at least one meeting per month (Manchester). They will be joining a small, enthusiastic editorial team who are committed to producing a magazine that features quality work from emerging artists in all fields of creativity.
Visual Editor / Designer
Duration: 6 months (this will be extended depending upon performance).
Hours: up to 15 per week and able to attend at least 1 meeting per month.
Location: must be based in Manchester.
Key Roles / Responsibilities:
* To lead and influence all visual content and design elements within blankpages.
* To compile all content within each issue.
* To select submissions for visual art content (Front cover / Spotlight / blankgallery).
Optional Roles / Responsibilities:
* To develop interactive elements within blankpages, including moving image and music.
* To assist in the advertising of each issue of blankpages.
* To research and implement potential off-shoot publications on behalf of blankpages and Blank Media.
* Organise and implement interviews and reviews of visual artists and exhibitions.
Experience / Skills Required:
* Strong knowledge and understanding of design and the visual arts
* Must be computer literate and able to create Flash and PDF documents.
* Able to work to monthly deadlines and be in frequent contact with blankpages editor at all stages of design.
Desirable Experience / Skills:
* Qualification or work experience within design / visual arts.
* Access to a Mac (ideally using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign).
Person specification:
* Able to work well within a team as well as independently.
* Confident working to tight deadlines.
* Strong motivation and empathetic to Blank Media’s aims and objectives.
blankpages is an online magazine published by Blank Media Collective promoting the practices of creative writers and visual artists. The magazine has been in circulation for just over 18 months. It has a good record of promoting upcoming creative individuals and publishing a high standard of work. Each issue is available for free download from www.blankmediacollective.org/blankpages.
Blank Media Collective is currently unfunded and all directors and staff are unpaid. Unfortunately we cannot cover any expenses.
