[Recommends] Virgin Media Shorts
Tuesday 10th May 2011
Now in its fourth year, Virgin Media Shorts is the only short film competition to give aspiring British filmmakers the opportunity to show their work to millions of people across the country on four screens – in cinema, on TV, online and on mobile.
This year’s competition closes on 7th July 2011, after which 12 shortlisted entries will be chosen to be shown in cinemas nationwide for a whole year. From this shortlist of 12, a Grand Prize winner will be chosen by our industry judging panel and film fans everywhere can vote for their favourite to win the People’s Choice Award.
Entering the competition couldn’t be easier; simply upload your film (with a maximum time limit of 2 mins 20 seconds) to www.virginmediashorts.co.uk by the 7th July 2011.
Prizes up for grabs this year include:
* Twelve shortlisted films will be transferred to 35mm and screened in over 200 cinemas, including the Picture House network and independent cinemas, across the UK for a whole year
* One lucky Grand Prize winner lands up to £30,000 funding and money-can’t-buy mentoring to make their next film with the UK’s leading film body and Virgin Media
* One People’s Choice winner takes home thousands of pounds of new film kit
* The university/film school that enters the most films will receive £2,000 of new equipment for their faculty
Our winners don’t just get their work seen by millions in cinema; they turn industry heads, too.
2009 winner Luke Snellin won a BAFTA nomination for his Virgin Media Shorts winning entry ‘Mixtape’, while Oscar Sharp, Grand Prize winner in 2010, clinched a BIFA nomination for ‘Sign Language’.
Virgin Media Shorts shines a light on the best up-and-coming British film talent with help from a prestigious industry judging panel. Previous judges include Oscar winner Kevin Spacey, Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral), BAFTA winning director Duncan Jones (Moon), Noel Clarke (Kidulthood) and in-front-of-the-camera talent Gemma Arterton and Thandie Newton.
